What is 3D learning?
The world surrounding our young people has changed exponentially. It over-stimulates young minds on a daily basis.
We all know that the impact of screen time on our young people results in negative behaviours and disengagement and yet, in classrooms across the UK, we rely on screens to deliver a majority of our lessons.
We observe challenging behaviours, lower attainment and disengagement and we do not connect the dots… what would happen if we saw each of these as warning signs? What if our students are trying to tell us they are struggling? That the teaching and learning styles we are offering are creating more barriers to learning rather than overcoming them?
What if, by changing our teaching style, by offering our young people an alternative way of learning, we could create exciting and engaged learning environments?
3D learning uses creativity not to detract from core learning but to bring it to life, to ensure all young people are able to access learning and to connect with it fully.
How 3D Learning works
To love reading, to be able to pick up a book and to get lost in world, is a privilege. A privilege afforded to those of us who have the ability not only to read fluently but the cultural capital to be able to imagine the worlds and characters that the narrative introduces us to.
In today’s world, the cultural gap faced by many of students has grown into a cultural chasm. If you have not seen or experienced environments reflected in a text, how are you going to be able to fully engage with it? How will you empathise with characters?
Additionally, if reading fluency is a barrier, how will you fully engage with a narrative and enjoy the journey it can take you on?
3D Learning works to overcome each of these hurdles. It brings worlds to life using multi-sensory approaches and eliciting high level descriptive language, giving students ownership of the world of their text or topic. It animates characters from fact or fiction, giving them a voice, thoughts and reactions to events. It transforms the narrative into a 3D entity so that students can make and interact with it directly, understanding and engaging with it fully and responding to it thoughtfully.
Our approaches can and should be used time and again, across the curriculum. 3D Learning creates 3D learners who are able to use and apply the techniques to become the confident learners they deserve to be.
Why is 3D learning special?
3D Learning isn't about adding art, placing increasing strain on an already packed curriculum; it's about integrating creativity to deepen engagement and understanding across all subjects. It moves beyond traditional screen-based lessons, offering hands-on, multi-sensory experiences that cater to diverse learning styles.
This approach helps to reduce disengagement and challenging behaviours by fostering a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment. It develops communication and language skills across all students and creates confident and collaborative learners.
We believe that by embedding creativity, we unlock a richer, more accessible educational experience for all pupils and their teachers.
